COURSE MATERIALS:

A Practical Guide to Elder and Special Needs Law in South Carolina, 2nd Edition, available at the SC Bar.  Email alicia.hutto@scbar.org for any assistance you may need.  If you say you are in this course, you will get a 20% discount.  Regular price is $225.00. This is not a casebook but as its title would indicate a practice manual, addressing many topics and includes forms.

  • Read Part 1, Chapter 1 and 3 in A Practical Guide to Elder and Special Needs Law in South Carolina, 2nd Edition, available at the SC Bar.  
  • Write a brief essay (approximately 100 words double-spaced) explaining why you are interested in this course and what you hope to learn. 
  • Class description:
    • Course overview
    • What is elder law?
    • Representing the elderly and those with special needs/client relations

 

1/16/2025 – Ethics (St. Onge) [Bar Convention]

  • Read Part 1, Chapter 2 in the Practical Guide.
  • Review NAELA website and review the aspirational standards on the website:  https://www.naela.org/ (hint – look under “Who we are?)
  • Class description:
    • The many “C”s at the intersection of Elder Law and Ethics
    • Quick discussion in preparing you to develop your own Health Care Power of Attorney
