General Assignment Information
Please look at the following for our first class:
- Please read for our first class the following short non-legal materials:
List of countries by GDP sector composition (Wikipedia)
Jeffrey Wilson, “Multilateral, bilateral, regional: Which agreement is best?” (The Conversation, November 15, 2013)
Daniel Moss, “View: Revived TPP Shows Trade Will Go On Without the US” (Bloomberg.com, March 9, 2018)
Ruta, “How the war in Ukraine is reshaping world trade and investment” (World Bank blog “Let’s Talk Development” 05/02/22)
- Then take a look at the problems and exercises, trying to work through the idea that the composition of economies and state of (economic) development means they have very different interests. Glance at the Bangkok Mango Problem if you like to get some idea of the technical side of trade law, but do not spend too much time on it.
We shall pursue a quick overview of international economic law in the first class, to point you towards where the broader international economic law questions referred to in the syllabus’ coverage section fit, beyond trade law as such.
